re-evaluating play

I don’t know what it is but I think I have not been playing my A game for the past few days. I have been getting real deep into some tournaments but not been playing fundamentally perfect. I’ve decided to take some time off the casino cash games and work on my tournament play for the upcoming tournament on Saturday. I have been going through Pearljammers videos on PXF and also Rizens. Also will be playing a few 180 man SNGs to work on my game. I guess my biggest leak is playing overly aggressive at the later stages of the tournament where I usually will try and accumulate a lot of chips by restealing and 4 betting. Its pretty much a do-or-die strategy where I either get A LOT of chips or bust out trying to do so. Its a good way of playing tournaments especially at the later stages where most people would tighten up but I realised that I get called way too often by mediocre hands in the micro limit tournaments. Maybe I should just be playing perfect ABC poker at these levels….

Played a live rebuy tournament on Sunday and wasted $450 :( . I busted out 13th on a resteal with 9Tos. Obviously that didn’t fare well against KK. LOL. Did get some money back on the cash tables which is good.

I agree, the aggressive route is the better approach to the later stages, but in the micro limits I feel we have to be careful we are not perceived as bullying the table too much.

Sometimes I worry too much about my image though, so I can take it too far, and its a valid point that most of the players in the micro games aren’t aware of anyones image, but they can quickly get annoyed if they see you raise a few pots in a row, or raise there blind a few times in close order, even if you hold legitimate holdings and then begin to play back at you with a wide range of hands, just because they feel your bullying them and when your trying to pick up a few blinds here and there, thats not what you want.

Its always a good idea to re-evaluate how your playing and look for ways to improve. I’m looking at some areas of my own game at the moment, to try and improve on a few areas. You’ll get the rewards for your hard work soon enough.
